Everyone and their grandmothers have gone over this. How I see it is that Mineplex and Minecraft are both 100% fine... UNTIL the Java version stops getting updated.
Mojang has stated that they will eventually stop updating the Java version, in favor of the Windows 10 edition (its pocket edition on your computer).
Minecraft Java probably wont die thanks to the modding community, but vanilla servers will probably eventually die due to the lack of new material to work with. As long as Mineplex makes the jump to Windows 10 edition when the time comes, we'll be just fine.
No, I'm not happy that Mojang is slowly giving up on Java, but apparently their new platform will be much easier to develop updates (and hopefully mods too) for, so I can see why they are doing it.
Additionally, even though people are quitting Minecraft, a new generation is stepping in at the same time. You might not play with Legos anymore, but someone younger will take your place. Out with the old, in with the new.
